“Compassion in Action” …be brave, start small, use what you’ve got, do something you enjoy

Compassion in Action,
a very encouraging and helpful book
by Ram Dass and Mirabai Bush
(previously posted in Pocket Perspective, 7/23/2014)

A few steps from that book…
steps for getting started on “compassionate service,”
whether an action out in the world…
or, perhaps,  starting a blog?

steps to encourage oneself in getting going,
figuring out what one might do,
exploring and investigating,
using one’s abilities and strengths,
offering to others

Some potentially helpful steps to encourage oneself in “getting going”…
getting started with whatever “action” or “service” that might resonate

Steps from Compassion in Action,  for encouragement in initiating and engaging in “compassionate service”

  •  Be brave
  •  Start small
  •  Use what you’ve got
  •  Do something you enjoy
  •  Don’t overcommit

~

I created these particular pages a few months ago, as an extension of  some other pages I had previously created and posted in Pocket Perspectives:   “How Wonderful It Might Be If I Could…….”

~

Recently, I added some specific examples and ideas about each “step.”   I use these examples to help to encourage, inspire or reassure myself, if I lose confidence or have doubts.

I also made the various images into translucent, plastic “sun-catcher” ovals that I then attached to wire mobiles that I made out of sections of wire.   The mobiles spin gracefully in our front yard…great inspirations spinning out there!  A photo of those mobiles is in the background of these pages.

~

When I made the mobiles, I also created a few bookmarks for myself, to help remind myself of ideas I’d like to remember and “live.”

I printed these reminder “bookmarks” out, cut them and taped them in obvious place. I also use them as bookmarks and just keep them handy, as helpful reminders.  I recently shared the hard copies of the bookmarks with other people in a class I’m taking at Cal…a class where we’re all volunteering in various refugee programs in the Berkeley/Oakland area.

The mobiles and bookmarks with these simple steps and encouragement seem to be  helpful!

Pocket “reminder” cards:  printable pdf  copy of  pocket reminder cards: “Compassionate Action.”  I recently shared  hard copies of these pocket reminder cards with other people in a class I’m taking at Cal OLLI …a class where we’re all volunteering in various English language programs with refugees and students in the Berkeley/Oakland area.  We were all quite nervous about whether we’d know what we were doing, so the reminders on those cards were soothing, supportive and helpful!

“Hold you in my heart” …a new blog for creating, exploring and supporting possibilities

~

hold you in my heart intentions 55

~~

Perhaps…..
a virtual “place” to learn more about creating blogs,
sharing ideas we’re “working” on,
“brainstorming” about possibilities,
“playing” with creativity,
“questioning” about the “how to’s”

~

A place of support, sharing and exploring

A place of warmth, encouragement, safety and creativity,
A place of “availability”

~

A very safe place where we remember that…
“I hold you in my heart….”
“You hold me in your heart…”
“We hold each other in all of our hearts…..”

~

face of love, the face of God, the face of love song

~

A place to remember that we care about each other…
we’re connected to and supporting each other…
we’re holding each other in our hearts

“All I ask of you is forever to remember me as loving you”

This new blog, “Hold You In My Heart” was set up/created by Kathy, aka Pocket Perspectives.   It was an idea that “popped into my head” this morning. (Monday!)  Please feel free to ask questions, offer ideas or contribute comments in the “comments” box below or email Kathy (Pocket Perspectives) at kboyle777@comcast.net

Support for pursuing learning “how to create blogs” about our “inspirations” and “projects”….. some encouraging words that I received 5 years ago from “Jampa,”  a good friend who is a Buddhist monk in Australia….inspiring encouragement to explore, pursue, create and bring our altruistic intentions and ideas to fruition…may it be so…..
